I think one bloke made a book out of "Shit my Dad says" but I just got a pearl myself when a caller told me his email address was "all lower case".

It doesn't matter whether email addresses are written in lower or upper case! They work any which way!

One of my ex colleagues used to tell clients very carefully her address was Firstname with a capital F, dot, Surname with a capital S, @... You get the idea. I did once try explaining it didn't make a scrap of difference, but she never quite got it.

So your caller is not the only one, Beate!

Maybe not now but they did when email addresses started out, so it depends how long he's had the email. Oh well I'll continue to be an idiotic person & mocked for it I guess. personally can think of much bigger idiots in the world than that

My work email is the same as my work username/windows login, the username is case sensitive the email not, so maybe that's where the confusion lies?

I don't know I just remember back in the 90s when I first got my email addresses you couldn't even access things unless they were totally correct, much like passwords. At some point things have changed and I didn't get the memo, but how do you go about getting the memo?

Well I've always used that phrase when giving out my email address. I've often wondered about whether it works either way, but never actually had enough interest to bother putting it to the test. I have noticed, however that it often doesn't matter if you put "http://" or even "www" in front of web site addresses. I can't even remember what they mean it's been so long since they came out.

They don't. I guess it's just the way they like to see it written, but it doesn't make a scrap of difference how you actually write it.
