Taking Woodstock
It's summer, 1969. Elliot tiber (Demetri Martin) - a down-on-his-luck interior designer in New York - has to move back up north to help his parents manage their run down Catskills motel, the El Monaco.
The bank is about to foreclose, his father wants to burn the place down but forgot to p*y the insurance and Elliot is still trying to tell he's parents he's gay.
Hearing that a neighbouring town has pulled the permit on a hippie music festival, Elliot calls the producers in hopes of drumming up business for the motel.
Three weeks later half a million people are on their way to his neighbours farm in White Lake, NY, and Elliot finds himself swept up in a generation-defining experience that will change his life - and popular culture - forever.

Re: Taking Woodstock
Looks like after three weeks, totalfilm has finally decided that this is what will be their next screening!
The summary reminded me of Adventureland (maybe it was the year or the way the film looked!
) but the trailer doesn't look too bad. Not brilliant, but not bad either.

Re: Taking Woodstock
that movie looks just up my ally, i have a soft spot for 60's early 70's era and this film includes music too. i can't see it being the greatest movie but one that you could watch a few times to pass the time. not heard of "Lust, Caution" i'll look that up.

Re: Taking Woodstock
I thought the trailer looks a bit boring but I will give this a try. Incidentally, the film will be shown at the London Film Festival as well so don't b*y tickets if there is a chance for a free screening.

Re: Taking Woodstock
I wouldn't hit up an LFF screening, it's only out in november anyway, and it's been out months in the US, very middle of the road apparently, some reviewers complained that you never get to experience any part of the festival, it's just focussed on the one kid's experience.

51% on rotten tomatoes.
"Just rent ADVENTURELAND (a better coming-of-age movie) and the WOODSTOCK documentary (a better depiction of the festival) instead of wasting your time on this." - No way this looks better than adventureland. Please please please don't be anything like it! I originally thought it might be like that. Please no!
"Lee has done it again; he really has to be one of the most intelligent, subtle and all-round perfect directors working in the English language. What he has done here beats Cameron Crowe at his own game." A much better review! Makes me want to watch it!
"It's an undemanding film with moderate laughs, but Lee is aiming very low." This is a review from the Guardian!!!
I guess I will just have to wait and find out.

Re: Taking Woodstock
Exactly my thoughts! When I saw the trailer, it looked like a less fun version of Adventureland.
