The Princess Bride

#1 Post by Yinster » Thu Mar 07, 2013 11:50 pm

To celebrate The Princess bride being 25 years old Vue are showing it this week and in my case my local vue is only showing it at the weeekend's KidsAM. More the pity as I would have love to seen this on the big screen. Inconceivable

The Princess Bride is a classic film from the legendary director of films like When Harry Met Sally and This Is Spinal Tap. A boy is read a fairy story that has been handed down and as he listens the action comes to life before his very eyes. Princess Buttercup (Robin Wright) has not only been promised to a horrid prince as his wife but is being held hostage in order to spark a war. Can her childhood sweetheart Westley (Cary Elwes) and his band of strange but merry men save her? The Princess Bride is a family favourite that really does have something for everyone.

This is one of my favourite films of all time. It has had such a profound effect that even though I love him as Saul in Homeland I can't see Mandy Patinkin as anyone other than Inigo Montoya.

Apart from the obvious lines I love:
Fezzik: We face each other as God intended. Sportsmanlike. No tricks, no weapons, skill against skill alone.
Man in Black: You mean, you'll put down your rock and I'll put down my sword, and we'll try and kill each other like civilized people?

Classic!

This has to be my favourite film of all time. I have it on DVD and have watched it countless times.

I've never seen it either (it was on TV recently but I missed it) and as it seems to be a Vue exclusive, I won't be seeing it any time soon either.
