Exchange Students
I've got a German Exchange student (a 16 year old girl) coming to stay for a week on the 9th October. We are going to London for the day on the Sunday, she will be going on day trips during the week with my daughters school. Does anyone have any suggestions how to make it a special week for her? I've asked on the wanted thread for an Education as I've agreed to take an extra 2 students for the night.
Thanks everyone for any help or ideas.

Re: Exchange Students
I guess you can find out what in particular interests her and then according to that, take her somewhere nice in London. Definitely get her to try out a restaurant or so (not Macdonald's or funny PFC's!).
Might want to go sight seeing so you could always pop on the London buses and see places (and hope it doesn't rain). I know the sight seeing buses go through Tower of London, St Paul's Cathedral etc etc. Or if she wants to have fun, there's trocadero in Picadilly Circus for fun and games.
She could have waffle and ice cream (my favourite past time
) if visiting Oxford/Bond Street - they make it fresh and lovely... I've never been a big fan of shopping although that is an option.... erm what else?

Re: Exchange Students
Assuming the Sunday will be the only trip to London, I would suggest that you show them all the things that London is renowned for.
Start at Buckingham palace.
Make sure you see the Changing of the Guards (The Guard Change takes place at 11:30 daily from May until the end of July and on alternate days for the rest of the year, weather permitting so you will need to check for the Sunday in question)
Go off the Downing Street (I'm sure Gordon Brown will invite you in for a cup of tea).
Walk up to the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
Shoot across to the London Eye. (You don't have to go on it if you don't want the expense)
It may be a good idea to think about a bus tour http://www.bigbustours.com/eng/london/default.aspx (not sure that this is the best or the most competitive priced)
Consider going to Harrods for some window shopping (on the inside) and maybe to pick up some cheap(ish) presents. They have a tourist bit.
Hope this is a start!

Re: Exchange Students
Thank you so much a_person and destresserai, really appreciate your ideas. I've done a few day trips to London this year but mainly for the theatre so only reasonably familiar.
Thanks once again.

Re: Exchange Students
There were some 2 for 1 offers for boat cruises during the thames festival, so you might want to have a look at the thames festival website.
I wouldn't mind hosting a foreign student myself..

Walk along the Southbank towards East until you get to the magnificent Globe, it's wonderful and it's cheap!
