Favourite Film Villain
So many to choose from but the winner has to be Darth Vader for me.

Re: Favourite Film Villain
I think there are too many villains, elmqueen. I remember being terrified of the Queen in Snow White and the seven Dwarfs when I was five years old.
More recently, I think Hannibal Lecter was pretty awful in The Silence of The Lambs.
Also Mr Potter in 'It's a Wonderful Life'. Then there was that awful Gestapo character played by Ralph Fiennes in 'Schindler's List'. Tough to come up with one, isn't it? You say Darth Vader, but I felt the Emperor was far more menacing.

Re: Favourite Film Villain
There are favourites who I adore - like Johnny Depp as Jack Dillinger in Public Enemy
.
And then there are those who I hate, but they are hypnotic, like Mesrine.....
I hated everything about him, but I had to watch, and now I will have to watch the second Mesrine film too!

Re: Favourite Film Villain
Sticking with the Disney theme.. I have to go with Cruella De Ville ... how could anyone try to hurt those cute puppies.
On a grown up theme it has to go to Heath Ledger doing the Joker...

Re: Favourite Film Villain
Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood has got to be a favourite. Next to his horrifyingly human performance Heath Ledger's necrohyped work looked distinctly average.
Also, Henry Fonda in Once Upon a Time in the West. Superb casting.

Re: Favourite Film Villain
Cant really top your top villain list, AYBG. Darth Vader, Daniel Plainview, Ledger's joker, and great call on Fonda in the greatest western of all time IMO.
I think there are 3 types of villains, the ones that entertain, ones that make you justifiable hate, and others that are cold and terrifying.
Entertaining villains: Batty (Rutger Heuer) in Blade Runner (my number 1 fav villain), Gollum in Lord of the Rings, Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day Lewis) and oh have to add the Wicked Witch of the West!
Hateful villains: the main baddy in Ghost, and the treacherous mission advisor in Aliens.
Purely terrifying: HAL in 2001, Mike Myers (Halloween), (I am sure I would have added Ralph Fiennes in Schindlers list but I am still too terrified to watch the film!)
