One Direction: This Is Us
One Direction: This Is Us
Yeah yeah yeah, if you don't want to hear about it, don't read it.
Saw this at the O2, upon sitting down I was immediately grilled by the two girls next to me about who my favourite was, and there was a preteen girl in line behind me who was wearing what I can only describe as a wedding dress! When chatting to the Sky reps (who could tell I wasn't as psychotic as some of the other people in line) they said that it seemed as though a lot of the people thought 1D were going to be at the O2. Silly kiddoes.
They also gave us presents, most of which were Sun+ branded, some of which were 1D branded, and we had an announcer introduce the film, which thankfully started promptly at 7. I was worried that they were going to synchronise it with Leicester Square, as they did with Man of Steel, and they weren't anywhere near starting at 7! Luckily I don't think we missed any of the interviews that mattered.
I actually really enjoyed the film, thought it was a great use of 3D (very subtle, most of the film wasn't in 3D. Good if you're not p*ying, but I wouldn't p*y to see it in 3D. The reason I don't outright hate them like a lot of people do is because everything I see about them tells me they're just normal boys who like to sing. Their fans created the frenzy. That really came across in the film. It was sweet to see
Liam talking about having a wife and kids one day
and especially heartwarming when
Zayn b*ght his mum a house.
I thought on the whole it was well done, and while maybe I wouldn't have pa*d to see it, definitely glad I watched it.
Also, am I crazy or did anyone else see Helen Mirren on the screen during the Red Carpet coverage? I just caught a glimpse because I was reading my book, but I could have sworn it was her, and someone down the row from me seemed to think so too, as she shouted her name. Couldn't find any pictures on Getty Images to prove it though, and everyone else there seemed to be music industry related.
I will say this though. One Direction fans are actually psychotic. I wasn't around during Beatlemania, but I'm pretty sure this is actually worse. The girls to one side of me had no idea who Ronnie Wood was, and the girls to the other side of me had no idea who Helen Mirren was! Only had eyes for Niall, apparently.
And congrats to Zayn on his engagement.

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
Took my 10 yr old to the Glasgow screening last nite, she really enjoyed it although she enjoys anything to do with 1D. I thought it was well done and not too over the top, the boys all came across as typical teenage boys having fun and living the dream. I too enjoyed :-) dont think I would have rushed to the cinema and p*id to see but glad I did get a chance to view it.

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
Took my friends (1D obsessed) daughter to see this in Glasgow last night and she told me that it was the best night of her life!!! (She is still absolutely hyper about it today!)
The film itself has no real story and it really just following them on their tour-Seems like five nice boys are enjoying having the time of their life.
Was glad it started at 7pm and surprised that it was 3D, thought it added to the film.
Anyone who likes One Direction will absolutely love it.

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
Went to see this earlier today and it actually wasn't that bad
.
X-Factor is a bit a guilty pleasure for me (although I much prefer the American version) so I watched the show when 1D were contestants. At that time I thought they were awful, their voices were average at best, their 'performances' were pretty lifeless and they very rarely sounded like a group, most of the time it was just five individuals singing at the same time.
However, I did appreciate that they hadn't been together for very long etc so expected that they would, eventually, improve with time...so I was very surprised indeed, based on what I saw today, to see that nothing has really changed
.
I find it hard to believe that the current generation of teenage girls are so...easily pleased
. 1D can't dance (which they themselves admit), their voices are still nothing special and the majority of their songs aren't catchy at all.
I therefore ended up finding the mechanics of their success (on a global scale) really rather fascinating and it was interesting to see how teenagers (99% female) from different cultures reacted to them (in a similar way obviously but there were also unique variations).
I also liked the scenes when they disguised themselves & interacted with the fans (there should have been more of that in this movie) plus the scene where one of the Dad's admitted that he had little to offer his son (but had missed the window to offer him what little he did have) got under my skin a bit (in a good way). I thought the b*ying a house for Mum & Sisters scene was a little bit forced if I'm honest, a lovely gesture but one that lost a great deal of value by being included in this film.
At the end of the day, this really isn't anything more than a promotional video, designed to cater for their existing fan base rather than expand it therefore it's very difficult for me to actually recommend this film to anyone other than 1D fans. However, it was more often than not a positive viewing experience therefore it would feel a little bit harsh to give this movie anything less than a 6/10...

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
its not going to be that bad, RazB, its good ol' Morgan Spurlock at the helm I believe. Its the content you'd feel odd watching tut tut young boys showing off their chests and so forth. But yeah I shall assume you have little girls in the family, safe to say you are not the target audience lol (and I'm its anti-Christ).

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
Just been to see this this afternoon. Had loads of Cineworld vouchers to use up before the end of the month and I actually really liked it and they came across as a lovely bunch of young men - very grounded and if you like nice life stories which I do it's a perfectly nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon. I actually think that they all have very good warm voices which blend together but I do have a very diverse taste in music basically anything from opera to rap apart from rock which I really don't like.
They are what they are bringing pleasure to a lot of people and sometimes if you over analyse things it takes the pleasure out of it. 8/10

Re: One Direction: This Is Us
I need to see something between 4 and 7 at hammersmith tomorrow.
Is this movie survivable? I have vouchers, but Riddick starts too early to be considered and I've seen the other movies Hammersmith offers.
The irony that 'best song, ever!' is candidate for worst song ever is not lost on me, but I am not too bothered about how content these young lads are to piss on their fans, I just want something to watch and stay dry if it rains between those hours.
