The Road

#1 Post by 1978 » Tue Oct 27, 2009 10:18 pm

Based on Cormac McCarthy’s best-selling and Pulitzer Prize winning novel, “The Road” is the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father and his young son across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth.

Really looking forward to this one. o/

My German friend saw this one at the Film Festival as it's with Viggo Mortensen. She said it was depressing but good.

I just re-read the novel recently and I can't wait for the film to come out.

The director previously did an interesting film called The Proposition which seems like it would be good practice for a film like The Road. I'm not sure how well the film will do commercially though as it won't have the kind of happy ending that American audiences normally go for...

This was the film for which Curzon Cinemas offered me a free ticket in lieu of "A Serious Man", which they mistakenly told me I could see free. But I would avoid this film like the plague - I don't go to the cinema to be harrowed and depressed!

When did Curzon say that they were showing The Road?!

It's a way off yet - it was their next members' screening and not until 27 December. So it won't be offered, even to members, until the next magazine comes out. It wasn't only that I didn't want to see it but that it's a Sunday and I'd be unlikely to get the day off work.

Well if you don't particularly want those tickets but can get your hands on them anyway... :P

Sorry, but the offer is only ever for one ticket per member (you can b*y more if a non-member wants to go with you); they only offer 50 tickets free and I have already declined the offer. I'm still hoping someone will cancel their freebie for this Sunday when I have the day off! You would have to produce your membership card to claim the ticket, anyway - but if you are also a member, you will be able to apply yourself in due course.

Mortensen has been tipped for an Oscar for his role in The Road.

No problem, Ms Thrifty - I've waited this long to see a film adaptation of the book, I'm sure I can wait a little bit longer until January or February when it finally comes out...
