Not really, but the edge of the Peak District is only about 20 minutes away if that helps

I know I've been to Ashton under Lyne but wasn't sure if it was the one I had trouble with.

It turns out that the Cineworld I was thinking of was Bolton. If you ever visit and walk from the main road, beware of vicious stinging nettles which wrap themselves round your legs as you climb down roughly hewn steps!!
