Re: The Book of Eli
We saw the trailer last night at The Odeon, Gateshead, and it looks rather good. I'll do a bit more reading before making my mind up. I'm going to have to start p*ying to see films shortly!!

Yeh I thought it looked pretty good too. Perhaps maybe a screening. Who knows?

Re: book of eli
Isn't this film out in cinemas already? I am quite interested to see it as well.

Re: book of eli
But wouldn't that be nice, if they still did some codes after a film is on general release....

Re: book of eli
What would be the point exactly, marketing-wise? And yes, sometimes there are competitions for a film when it's already out, but that's different in my eyes.

Well if it was in the first week of the film opening, any talker screenings will still be good, as there's still time to tell your friends how great the film is (the tellten effect).
Geez I better not give SFF any bad ideas! Otherwise they will wait until the film opens, see if it's selling before deciding to offer talker screenings....

Re: The Book of Eli
We saw this film last night at Vue, Hartlepool. Here is one cinema crying out fro re-furbishment. The foyer was massive, cold and draughty; the cinema was cold, then too hot; the seats were torn and upholstery in serious need of attention; oh, and the whole place smelt of stale cigarette smoke. Great start!
The film made up for the serious shortcomings of the cinema itself. It is not in the same league as The Road, which I saw last weekend, but there were fine performances from Denzil Washington, and Gary Oldman, and small roles for Michael Gambon and Frances de la Tour. There was the unavoidable blood and gore, and further references to cannibalism but as long as I hid behind my hands during these scenes I was alright!
The film reminded me at times of a great Western, something like High Plains Drifter - one man against so many, and there was only going to be one winner.
Well worth a watch, I think, even from behind your hands! 8/10
