Change

#1 Post by superhero » Wed Dec 02, 2009 4:32 pm

I saw the show Change when it opened for previews (Yes I pa*d for it again!) I would definitely recommend people to go and watch it especially if there are free codes with SFF. It's one of the bigger West End theatre shows at the moment, unlike what's been on offer by SFF with fringe theatre shows.
What Arturo does is pretty amazing and has to be seen to be believed. However it is hard to make a whole show out of quick change acts, so the whole thing is padded out with lots of "backstory". The first half is better I think, the novelty does wear out in the end, but he does try his best to entertain the crowd. If you are taking kids along it's even better, they will love it. It is more geared towards children, but nevertheless it's an enjoyable crowdpleaser if you are not expecting too much.
Its just a real shame the show hasn't done well with many offers of discounted tickets and now free tickets with SFF. I think people are happy to p*y for musicals, maybe plays, but think twice before p*ying for a quick change magic show. Shame...

I went to see Change yesterday afternoon. I thought it was unusual and interesting, but I wasn't really convinced there was enough there to make a full show out of it. Lots of people appeared to leave at the interval - not sure whether they thought it was finished.
I thought the opening was good, with all the quick-changes, but it lost my interest a bit from there. I wondered on more than one occasion if he has a twin brother! I thought the shadow puppetry bit was fun, but I did catch myself thinking that had I pa*d £40 to see it I would have felt a bit fed-up.
I think it's great that SFF is branching out into more things, and it's good for me to broaden my horizons a bit to go and see things that I wouldn't otherwise try. I would recommend Change for people who like weird stuff, and for those with kids, but I'm glad I went on my own as I don't think any of my friends would have enjoyed it all that much and I would have been apologising for taking them to something they didn't really like.

Poor Change! They are giving more free tickets again today on SFF. I did like the show and really applaud the producers for being brave enough to put on a show which is slightly different from the norm (your usual musicals, cabarets, plays). Shame they are probably going to lose quite abit of money on it... :shifty:

I went to see the show tonight (thanx for posting the SFF code, phunkygal!). Not much to add to what others said, other than my OH and I really liked production/sets. We thought some parts were funny, others just repetitive. For a freebie it was great, but I might have been disappointed had I pa*d 20 quid or more to see this show.
