Winner of three Critics Choice Awards, the film tells the story of Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) who is forced to return to his hometown, Manchester by the Sea, Massachusetts to become legal guardian of his nephew (Lucas Hedges). On his return Lee has to face the moment in his past that separated him from his wife Randi (Michelle Williams) and the community where he was born and raised.
The film is produced by Matt Damon and has been nominated for five Golden Globes awards including best film, best director, best actor for Casey Affleck, best supporting actress for Michelle Williams and best screenplay.
