The Pacific - TV series
When filling in the feedback form for Everybody's Fine, I noticed that the menu with the list of films included "The Pacific" at various venues (including Leeds, Dunfermline, Livingston, Shepherd's Bush).
This is, I think, the series that George Pelecanos (who was a writer on the Wire) said he was working on - a follow on to Band of Brothers, set in the Pacific. It premiers in HBO (US) in March. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0374463/ http://www.hbo.com/the-pacific/index.html
Has there been a screening for this? I don't recall seeing anything, but it could have been when I was away. I cannot see anything about a forthcoming screening on Sky, but maybe it is next on the list? It is a 10 part mini-series though, so not sure whether it would be just a taster.
Anyone know anything about this?

Re: The Pacific - TV series
Just been added to the My Sky Extras preview screenings. Looks like just one cinema though, the Vue O2 on the 23rd March. Probably just going to be the first 1 or 2 episodes. Quite an odd thing to show I guess, but I can imagine it's going to be a very cinematic series anyway. I've been looking forward to this for ages, so I'll probably give this one a go when it goes live.

Re: The Pacific - TV series
Not able to book yet but screenbooking login page now says the following
Screening soon:
The Pacific, at Vue O2
In spring 2010, Sky Movies Premier/HD will bring The Pacific to UK TV audiences. This is a 10-part TV mini-series from US production company, HBO. The new series is a ‘companion piece’ to the critically acclaimed and multi-award winning Band of Brothers and we are offering you the chance to see an exclusive and advanced screening of episodes I & II at a completely free cinema screening.
Produced by Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg and Gary Goetzman, The Pacific has cost an estimated $200 million, being shot entirely in High Definition. The investment in the project has given the finished series the look and feel of a major Hollywood theatrical release with the ongoing narrative of a serial drama.
The Pacific tracks the intertwined odysseys of three U.S. Marines – Robert Leckie, Eugene Sledge and John Basilone – across the vast canvas of the Pacific. The extraordinary experiences of these men and their fellow Marines take them from the first clash with the Japanese in the haunted jungles of Guadalcanal, up the black sand terraces of Iwo Jima, to the triumphant, yet uneasy, return home after V-J Day.
Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies, said: ‘We were blown away when we saw the previews of the series - the cinematography and effects are pureHollywood. It seemed only natural that a premium production such as this should live on Sky Movies, where it can be viewed as the director intended – in HD and with no ad breaks.”

Certificate: TBC
Screening Date: Tuesday March 23
Screening Time: 6pm for 6.30pm start

Re: The Pacific - TV series
I got the confirmation already, I am sure you will be fine Beate!
Is it just me looking at the trailers on Sky, the scenes look almost identical to ones on Saving Private Ryan....
