British Actors - Bad guys

I went to a pub in Hampstead last night and saw a well known British actor who routinely plays a bad guy (often with a comic twist) and cannot for the life of me think of his name. I'm pretty sure he's also a theatre actor.

He's pobably in his 50's, not an oil painting (without meaning to be rude), has a beard, big eyes....

Any ideas? Needle in a haystack I know, but if anyone can figure it out it'll be one of the film buffs on here!!!

Needle in a haystack is easy... this is a needle in a pile of needles!!!

Can't be too well known if you can't recall any films he's been in!

That's the thing, I can picture him in films, I just can't identify the film :(

I have to stop thinking about it and it'll come to me... hopefully!

Nope, neither of those... Older than thies second guy (whom I don't recognise!), slimmer than Ray. Wish I had seen Ray!!!

Nope, again someone else that's not familiar, to me at least. More that sort of look though that the ones mentioned before though. Perhaps a bit younger, beard, dark hair... grrr! this is annoying the hell out of me!!!
