Sucker For Soundtracks

#1 Post by Ms Thrifty » Wed Mar 10, 2010 2:26 pm

Unlike some members, I don't b*y DVDs, but I am very susceptible to soundtracks and wondered if anyone else succumbs to these so easily? If I really like the music, I can't wait to order the CD; hence I recently acquired the Crazy Heart soundtrack and yesterday I saw 3 films and ended up ordering 2 CDs. Well, at least it wasn't all 3...

It's not something I think of much with western films (8 Mile being a notable exception) but obviously a big part of Bollywood is the music - I know songs from more Hindi films than I know films, if you know what I mean. I even know lyrics to a few despite my Hindi not being particularly noteworthy. I'm not sure I even have any other sound track...!

I'm a sucker. Too.

Got a gazillion soundtracks. Personal faves are John Barry (inc. Indecent Proposal, Out of Africa et al), The Beach, Dr Zhivago, John Williams (Star Wars et al), Ennio Morricone (Cinema Paradiso et al), Vangelis (chariots of fire et al), Atonement, Up Close and Personal...wow...too many to list.

As for series soundtracks - The OC, One Tree Hill, Charmed and currently Glee which I love but can't stand to watch! The soundtrack is fab!

So thinking about it, if the question on the feedback form was not "Would you b*y the DVD?" but (or in addition) "Would you b*y the soundtrack CD?", I'd be saying "yes" quite a lot instead of "no" every time. Perhaps SFF, etc, are missing a trick? But I'd still check online for the cheapest deal!

It depends on the film, because I find for a lot of movie soundtacks mainly chick flicks etc, I find that I'll have like half of the songs already so I don't see the point. If there's a particular song I like but don't have then I'l just get that one song. Though for some films like musicals such as Mamma Mia, Hairspray (and I even afraid to say HSM) I just have to have the soundtrack also films like Harry Potter have great scores.

I love TV soundtracks, The OC had some great music as does Gossip Girl but my favourite is obviously Glee, and amazing show with an amazing soundtrack.

Though I do tend to download off iTunes rather than b*y a CD.

Me too. I download from iTunes more than I b*y CDs because, as you rightly pointed out, sometimes you really love just one song or the theme tune. Like Stardust's Take That song, or Roswell's theme tune by Dido. Also mp3/m4u format is lovely and mobile.

Oh my god, I've just realised (thanks Sydney!) that I do of course have more soundtracks. I am the proud owner of a special edition (it has some extra info / pics in it) soundtrack of Dirty Dancing! Also have a soundstrack from the SATC series, not the movie - does that count?
