The Last Song
The Last Song
Based on best-selling novelist Nicholas Sparks’ (“A Walk to Remember,” “The Notebook”) forthcoming novel, THE LAST SONG is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father (Greg Kinnear) gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter (Miley Cyrus), who’d rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common—music—in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances.
Starring: Miley Cyrus, Kelly Preston, Greg Kinnear, Bobby Coleman, Liam Hemsworth
Director: Julie Anne Robinson
UK release date: unknown
Running Time: 107 minutes
Trailer: http://touchstone.movies.go.com/thelastsong/
I saw this trailer today at the cinema, and it looks promising. This girl can sing - I liked her in the Hannah Montana film last year - if it hadn't been for this site and getting free tickets, I wouldn't have given it a second thought, so I'm interested to see how Miley Cyrus will perform in a role other than Hannah Montana.

Re: The Last Song
I think she'll be good as Nicholas Sparks wrote the book specifically for it to be a movie and he only wrote the book after Miley agreed to play the part in the film adaptation, so he wrote the book with her in mind as the lead, so there must be something good that made him want her as his lead!andrews wrote:I saw this trailer today at the cinema, and it looks promising. But yeah I quite like Miley and her song

Re: The Last Song
Oh dear - I've just read this on yahoo -
Cyrus takes a critical beating.
Miley Cyrus’ attempt to prove her acting credentials have been dealt a blow – her new film has been savaged by critics.
The teen sensation has boasted that her new film, ‘The Last Song’ by ‘The Notebook’s’ Nicholas Sparks, would quell any fears of being typecast in ‘Hannah Montana’ type roles.
However, the drama has not been looked on kindly by critics – with Cyrus baring the brunt of the negative reviews.
“Cyrus makes the most dubious 'dramatic' debut of any singer since Britney Spears.” – reports The New York Post, while The New York Times states: “Acting, for the moment at least, seems almost entirely beyond her…she pouts, slouches, storms in and out of rooms and occasionally cracks a snaggle-toothed smile, but most of the time she seems to be mugging for the camera, play-acting rather than exploring the motives and feelings of her character.
Well, if there's a free screening, I'm going to make my own mind up.

Re: The Last Song
I have just successfully booked tickets for The Last Song on the Telegraph booking page, and I don't subscribe to receive the paper. I just registered my details and it let me in - same booking system as the Times and Sky etc.

Just came back from watching this at Wimbledon Odeon and I was pleasantly surprised. I give it a 7/10

Re: The Last Song
Yeah, it wasn't bad. Of course it is formulaic, all of Nicholas Sparks' novels have the same theme: there is going to be romance and someone will die. But it's a tried and tested formula and it works. I didn't think Miley Cyrus is a bad actress, the little brother was funny and the boyfriend was of course hunky AND clever. I mean he's not only good at beach volleyball and fixing cars, no, he also reads Tolstoy and rescues turtles!
Odeon Whiteleys wasn't too full and I got asked for ID at the entrance, how dare they. Didn't like the screen and we sat in the third row from the back as the premiere seats are just too uncomfortable, but at least we had prettyxcool and her equally short friends in front of us, LOL. We also had an annoying elderly couple in our row who couldn't stop talking, even though I shushed them repeatedly. Either they were completely deaf or they didn't care. We also had a child behind us which got properly upset once it was clear what would happen to the Dad and started bawling its eyes out.
7.5/10 cause that's what I gave Dear John, the other Nicholas Sparks film, and it was in no way better or worse, and made for an entertaining evening. Watching the turtles hatch was awesome!
