Work to live...

#1 Post by anakin » Tue Jun 01, 2010 6:21 pm

I've often wondered what kind of jobs FMUKers have and thought I would start a thread about it. If you don't want to tell us what you do, then maybe share your dream job, or worst job (actual or what you think would be the worst job)...

We know that TCMMrGlass would be a fitness guru in another life..............

I don't actually have a proper job as i'm at college but in September I am going to uni and I wanna be a vet nurse, I do volunteer at my dog's vets as well. But yeah anything to do with working with animals is a dream job for me.

I've never known exactly what I'd like to do and it's a bit late now if I do work it out, but I do definitely like working with people (most people, most of the time) and have always had jobs which involve doing so. So that's a must, as is preferably doing something beneficial and which is appreciated - still working on that one!

Edit: oh, and I like being able to use foreign languages at work, too, but don't do so as often as I'd like.

Well you know Mr Glass, it's never too late. Capitalise on the cricket, go on a course and become a trainer. No better learning curve than doing it yourself!

Incidentally, I had always thought that my dream job would be to be a singer or actress (weirdly) but I'd hate to do it really because it's a bit harsh isn't it. If I could wangle my way in, I'd love to be a columnist of some kind. Not inspired by SATC (I'm not nearly as neurotic!), but I used to edit an email magazine at uni and loved that as well as writing the editor's comment bit...

Well until a month ago I was a Business/Security analyst contractor but now my official job title is Manager – Governance & Finance for Barclays…exciting stuff I know! :p
Hmmm dream job that’s hard…something that involves me getting pa*d a lot to sleep, eat good food, go to events for free, wear lovely designer clothes and get chauffeur driven everywhere …oh no I want to be Paris Hilton, hahahaha :undecided:

You know what, Anakin, Im going to do just that! You've just given me my next career goal in life ;) Well I did think about it for a while but you just made it sound such an obvious next step for me, lol. Already looking at prospectuses for NVQ level 2 gym instructor which is first step before becoming a PT but I might think of cricket coaching too. I'm no stranger to adult studying as being in the ridiculously rapid changing field of IT, I have had to keep on top of the game with recent qualifications.

I do weekly editorials for my cricket website, and writeup extremely exagerated and humourous (well, attempted humour) match reports. Its so much fun to do (I dont get pa*d for doing it, its purely voluntary) that I guess it would be a dream job if I did something similar as a pa*d job!

Could you not take up singing/drama class part time? Remember Uncle Albert in Only Fools and Horses? He worked in a bank for 40 years until he was 57 and then changed careers into acting!

So to everyone (including you Ms Thrifty), its not too late to pursue anything you dream of doing...! :D
