"Your mind is the scene of the crime"

This trailer certainly leaves a lot to the imagination. 'Teaser' trailer defined. I really want to know more about this movie. Nobody could say that they've seen the film in the trailer with this one.

As an aside - for those of you who are fans of Entourage, check out
In Development:
Aquaman (details only on IMDbPro) linked next to DiCaprio's name on IMDB. It would be quite funny if James Cameron directed. He has got an untitled project (again details only on IMDbPro) next to his name.

Fantastic cast according to IMDB...

In addition to DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (from 500 days of summer), Ellen Page (Juno), Marian Cotillard (Public Enemies, and La Vie en Rose), etc.

Can't wait!

I have watched this trailer about 10 times. Even the music is intriguing. There were all these rumours that this was actually Batman 3 being filmed under an different name. Warner Bros dont go round giving just any script a 200 million budget. This is gonna be a speical movie. Cant wait.

Yeah, it's like the Anti-Avatar - they hyped it so much it backfired pretty massively when the trailer arrived. Inception, on the other hand, also has a huge budget but until this teaser and a little plot synopsis a few days ago, no-one knew anything about it.

I'm glad that it's not just me. I had to pull myself away from watching it. The music is so haunting and surreal. It's seemingly a Hans Zimmer score. If the rest of the movie has the Hans Zimmer magical touch weaved through it, then it's gonna be a good 'un.

Christopher Nolan obviously knows how to pack a punch in the absence of words (and 'Mr VoiceOver Man'), other than flashes of 'Your mind' then 'is the scene of the crime' just shows how the director/writer can use pictures to say a thousand words and for your mind to invent a thousand more. I'm not wishing my life away, but roll on Summer 2010. Can't they release it earlier, for a nice change.

Let's start with the title: Inception. The first part or stage of subsequent events - an undertaking - a commencement.

The character names are a bit scientific sounding (imo) - i.e. Fischer and Eames. Does this suggest an experimental set up / scientific research / futuristic setting?

The Warner Brother logo showing their initials WB as a type of heavily confined dark (possibly gothic and game-like) city - and also indicating a Time Warner Company - perhaps indicating the importance of time (whether being up against time or somehow involved in 'mind' altering time). Are the confines of the city a reflection of the confines of the mind?

Initially the music is like a siren/alarming (a bit like a bull in a China shop - or like the Audi? car/bull ad coming right at you).

The spinning top (alongside droplets/beads of water) - does this indicate a twist in the tale, a game, events spinning out of control, or even angular momentum/quantum mechanics/energy particle transfer/spin energy of electrons to excited state? Is this an indication of how the mental or physical energy is transferred between minds? Boundary crossed between the conscious and unconscious streams? Is the helicopter flight indicating the presence of a machine to initiate this transfer? Sci-fi had been indicated alongside other genres of action and thriller.

The constant water/fluid reference, and the city within the mind architecture - is this a mirror image of the complex neuronal pathways of the brain? The roads could be neurones, and the buildings indicating how/where memories are stored. The first set of roads/networks looked like reality due to being drenched in daylight.

I was drawn to the giddy heights of the towering and cramped buildings when DiCaprio's character (Jacob) looked out of the helicopter, looking concerned that two suited officials were marching someone off to what looked like their death (is their descent from the helicopter ladder - or the steps/rungs at the side of the building - the start of Jacob's nightmare rather than an indication of a dream). Is this the start of a conspiracy - remembering that we are told "an executive becomes involved in a blackmailing scandal". Is Leo being taken for a ride / a passenger / observer or participant (is it really he who is being blackmailed or is he the blackmailer)? Remember, there might be a twist - spin - to the tale. Is he the one who's being set up, and needs to clear his name?

Cut scene here - fade to black...

The foundations of good are shocked to the core, and the glass of water starts to shake (as if the helicopter take off has caused this / is somehow interconnected), and tilts from its axis. Possibly now that the spin axis has been tilted/skewed, there is now a skewed perception of reality for Jacob.

The rollercoaster-like descent into the dark and sci-fi(esque) city, with Jacob now looking like a character in a game, might indicate that he is losing/not in control.

After the spiral, the music builds up tension, panic, fear, escalation, alert, then finally alarms again but in a more subdued way.

The 'hotel' scene shows two characters locking horns in a fight, not only with themselves, but they are also battling against their environment, which seems to be turning and twisting (reflective of the overall plot?).

The bath water, and man looking as though he's been submerged in it (was this the same object the spinning top was lying next to?) and been born into another dimension/reality.

The music reaches a crescendo. The clock/watch indicates fast approaching 12 and the day a Sunday.

Jacob wakes up from his 'dream/nightmare' state a bit startled (there seems to be light from the train? window - has he traveled back to reality - perhaps only getting a certain amount of time in the altered mind state)? Did he see the man fall in the hotel? Was the man him? Would he have fell into oblivion through the elevator doors if the clock hadn't timed out?

Wow, there are so many different interpretations that I could derive from this trailer. Absolutely brilliant! Love it when I watch a film and find my derived assumptions are absolutely way off the mark. This, for me personally, is what makes a really good film.

Just to show the difference in interpretation, what do others think after having watched this trailer?

I just read this back (15th July 2010) and wondered why I called DiCaprio's character Jacob. This was the rumoured name - Jacob Hastley - but actually Dom Cobb.

I am hoping they will do previews for this film. I would gladly p*y to see it though, it looks intriguing. Anyone entering the competition for premiere tickets, I think the competition starts for Brighton tomorrow.

DiCaprio struggled to guess ending on 'Inception'.

Leonardo DiCaprio has admitted that he struggled to cope with the twist and turns on his new movie 'Inception'.

The actor stars in Christopher Nolan's latest - and he admitted he had no idea what to expect next when he read the script. And he also added that he's glad the film's studio bosses have kept the plot a closely guarded secret.
He said, “I was in the movie and even when I watched it I didn't know what was happening next.

"Much of the appeal of this movie is going to be the surprise element and not knowing what to expect.

"I can't wait for people to see it. I completely immersed myself in it so not talking about it in great detail before people see it is very refreshing."

'Inception' is released on July 16th.

I've seen the trailer a couple of times - it looks intriguing to say the least. We've got a couple of weeks to see if we get any preview tickets.....

Preview tickets for Inception? Ahahahahaha.
Not a chance.

I have my IMAX for the first screening at the BFI, at quarter to stupid o'clock, well, 5:45pm, but I was hoping for an earlier one.

Still, I'm excited for it, having avoided everything past the second trailer.

Has anyone heard from thefancarpet on this? They are supposedly having a screening of this tomorrrow, but I don't b*y it.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Considering the secrecy surrounding it, the embargo on critic's reviews and the fact that the US premiere isn't until the 13th July it does seem highly unlikely. Has anyone actually ever been to a fancarpet screening other than the Get him to the Greek one a few weeks back?

Edit: Apparently the UK/world premiere is on the 8th July, but IMDB are clearly rubbish as they don't have that on the film's release schedule.
