Hi guys,

I'm thinking of taking out a subscription of either Empire or Total Film magazines. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on which one or others?

Also, the cheapest place to subscribe?

Empire's better by far. Better writing, better features, more people read it.

Up until about a year ago I had every issue of Empire apart from the first. how sad is that? If you have a Tesco Clubcard, you can use your points to b*y subscriptions to Empire or Total Film, at a fraction of the price.

I always use the empire website when I want to read a film review (even though I often disagree with the ratings given!).

Empire often have reduced magazine rates for new subscribers.

Me too!! I dont have the very first issue either, just the second onwards!

Weirdfilms, to answer your question, EMPIRE hands down. Their articles are always quality and they get exclusive photo shoots of the featured actors/directors etc. Empire is more reknowned so tends to get the better exclusives. But to be honest, it depends on your taste because each film mag has their own style and format, try a 2 or 3 for one month and see what takes your fancy but dont go broke and do what I used to do...

Long ago, I used to b*y every film magazine out there from Starburst, Total Film, Premiere (UK and US editions), Sight & Sound, and some US import magazines which I would b*y at Forbidden Planet in the West End. Yep I was continuosly broke as student because of that . But I still have them all! I threw none of them away. Sometimes I would browse through them and read an old article. The other day I found amongst my piles of magazines which I was re shifting to wallpaper my room, and found an old 1985 Starburst edition featuring Back to the Future and just stopped all my work and read the whole mag. So glad I kept them all and not thrown them away. One day I think I may eventually give them all to a film student as I have to admit, storage is a major issue! Today, I only b*y the Empire magazine, and havent really been keeping up with that every month either.

So i b*ght Empire magazine. It's pretty good i really enjoy alot of the articles/features. However, sometimes feels the reviewers can have a right pop at some films undeservingly so.

i've b*ght both empire and total film this month. won't bother b*ying either again. not for that price. rip off city.
