Re: Footloose
Saw this tonight at O2 Cineworld. Pretty packed tonight. This is not my usual kind of film but what the heck. I went in with low expectations and was pleasantly surprised that I secretly enjoyed it especially on hearing the songs "Footloose" and "Let's Hear it for the Boy." The acting was not too bad and the dancing was good. From the trailers I was expecting more dancing.
I was annoyed during the film when a pair of couples on what seemed like a double date just kept talking constantly during the film. Especially the guys. Can't people just sit and watch a film without talking and using their mobile phones. I sound like a grumpy old git.
Any way 6/10

Re: Footloose
Saw this tonight loved it. My three kids scores were all 10 out of 10 and my 60 year old Mum loved it too.
Re: Footloose
Saw this in Bristol at a 25% full cinema. To my surprise I rather enjoyed the energy and general feel good factor, though they slightly over did the religious connotations. My only complaint is pointed at my fellow participants. Last night we saw the rather bizarre Telegraph sponsored screening of 'Sleeping Beauty'. The audience only numbered about 20 or so, but you could have heard a pin drop, as everyone observed a respectful silence throughout. However the audience for this, was full of the usual chumps who b*y enormous amounts of sticky sweet treats in very noisy wrappers and then constantly are playing with their smart phones throughout (students). I'm getting fed up with telling people to keep quiet.

Re: Footloose
Watched the original last night on Film 4 - much better. Can you believe Sarah Jessica Parker has not changed her hair-style in almost 30 years?!
Sorry, got distracted!
It was very weird watching the original so close to the remake as although they changed some bits of the story, they kept in quite a lot of the dialect exactly the same, not even a tiny variation. It was very odd.
I'll not say too much as I might spoli it for the 3 people left in the UK who have not yet seen this.
Still sticking to Kevin Bacon being the better dancer. The review in Heat magazine is "pants"!

Re: Footloose
Saw this at an extremely packed showcase this evening. Must be a theme going on as it started 15 minutes late here in Liverpool as well. Was dissapointed with this or should I say the lead guy. No charisma, no character, rubbish actor and I wanted the bad guys to beat the c%^p out of him. If only he hadn't jumped off that bus. His solo dancing scene in the "barn" was awfully choreographed, I was cringing watching the whole scene. That said, loved Willard, he is a natural and so different from the character he played in the rabbit hole. He was funny, charming, charismatic and goofy all at the same time. Also liked Ariel, reminded me of a young Jennifer Aniston and goooood dancer, beat Lori Singer hands down (but then again, Lori Singer was rubbish in everything she did if she wasn't playing a cello). Thought the choreography throughout could have been a lot better for such a huge film as this. Andie McDowell didn't do or say much, but when she did, she did it well. And Randy Quaid looked like he'd had cheek inplants but his whole face had sagged down since!!
Was great to hear the original song's, classic tune's and my feet tapped along. Would have like to give this a higher score, but because of the lead guy I can only manage a 6/10

Re: Footloose
Went to the free screening in Southampton on Saturday morning 8th. The screening was about 90% full.
I must admit that I am not a lover of remakes. For a start I have probably seen the original, so I am already familiar with the plot line so already the pleasure in not knowing what will happen at the end of the film has gone. Also it shows a lack of imagination on behalf of the film makers.
Anyway to the film…..what was the point of remaking what was a pretty mediocre film in the first place? At least the first Footloose had the distinction of being an original idea, with an original song; this version didn’t even have that going for it. Also it was very geared towards the American market with heavy doses of bible, morals, mom and dad etc.
A boring remake. The fact I have seen plenty of offers of further free screening stating they have had plenty of positive reviews just confirms the opposite.

Re: Footloose
Ditto! I couldn't wait for it to end. The generous Rotten Tomatoes rating of 73% is even more baffling.mlt burger wrote:A boring remake. The fact I have seen plenty of offers of further free screening stating they have had plenty of positive reviews just confirms the opposite.
