A strange person sitting behind a counter with a plexiglass window hands you a piece of paper... Inscribed on the piece of paper is a ticket to see a film called "The Box"... The strange person behind the counter tells you that it's completely your choice whether or not you decide to use the ticket... But he omininously warns you that if you do use the ticket, some chavs you don't know will come into the cinema and kill off what was already a pretty crap viewing experience...

Right, now that my frustration has gone, let me be a bit more constructive in my criticism.
On paper, the plot sounds excting & somewhat original. It's not as if the actors put in poor performances either, they do their job, sadly they weren't given much to work with. For what I understand to be a mystery/suspense type film, only ONCE, and that was 2 minutes before the end credits did I find myself going "oh, that's what he meant". For the other hour & 40 minutes I was waiting for something interesting to happen.
The only mystery was wondering where this film was going, as for suspense - there was none. I haven't seen a trailer for this film on TV, is this the studio's way of hoping if flies undetected below the radar?
Bottom line, the plot isn't complicated, it's just painfully boring to sit through.

Well, saw it earlier, finally seen a Richard Kelly film in the cinema, which has made me happy. A shame it was his worst to date, better than the Domino script however.
Whilst some of the tension is relieved early with the box button issue, the film loves to stop completely, then out of nowhere bombard you with horrific choices and sudden shocks, whilst Ms Diaz decided to spoil the film at Comic-Con to those who watched, as Mr. Kelly sat horrified, the film's odd twists and turns are neither subtle nor too outlandish, more mainstream than Darko or Tales' works, and once more Kelly relies on works of writers for elements of dialogue and intricate ideas.
It's not the best film ever made, but it's far and wide more inventive, nerve shredding and brilliant than a whole heap of films from this year alone, to say it's a joyless, dull, painful experience is to purely be a passive viewer, watching the events, but not contemplating, putting yourself in this situation, no, Kelly's films will never be truly mainstream until mainstream audiences realise you must be active and engaged, not texting and throwing popcorn.
