Just seemed like a normal horror film to me too. Few bits that make you jump but nothing to stop you from sleeping at night. It's okay to watch though but if you're looking to be scared, I don't think you'll find it here. 6.5/10 (deducting 3.5 for not scaring me!)
The Orphanage is one of very few real horrors of the last few years, using editing and camera movement to create tension, rather than the very cheap, very lazy jump-scares you find in the American market. These appeal to some people, and maybe that was the type of film you were expecting but with the Orphanage, the more you focus on it, the scarier it is, ultimately making it one of the scariest movies of the decade. Giving it a 6.5 and saying it's not scary is like complaining your steak doesn't taste enough like Big Mac.

Last night OH and I watched the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. I had no idea what it was about and wish we hadn't watched it. A depressing film with an awful ending even though you saw it coming a mile off. Wasn't a great film by any means and though I suppose the point was to tell a different story to the usual films, but still. I can't understand why anyone would even write a book like that!
I didn't dislike the film as such (apart from the ending) but certainly didn't like it. I don't even think I can score it. Maybe a 4 or 5 out of 10. I'm all for telling the untold stories, but to make up a horrid story like this... well there are too many real ones to have to add to them.

Preferred cinemas: Most Central London, Finchley Road, Swiss Cottage, Islington, Holloway and West India Quay, Greenwich (O2 / Odeon only) or Stratford City if there is nothing else!

I watched Eagle Eye last night - a preposterous storyline really - a little like War Games meets 24/Spooks/any other terrorist type TV show you can think of.
However, I didn't fall asleep so it wasn't that bad. An easy watch, not too demanding on the brain cells. ;)

Bandslam. I never did get to see this in the cinema but the DVD helped keep me awake last night whilst waiting for OH to make it home from his trip to Newcastle. A worthy 7/10 in my book, though coincidentally, as people have been saying that Steve Martin's face looked weird in It's Complicated, I thought exactly the same about Lisa Kudrow's in this, and whenever she was on screen, I was more preoccupied by her bizarre appearance than with what her character was doing or saying. I had somehow got the impression that this was a film for younger children but it seemed to be a normal teen movie.

I watched Mirrors yesterday, all alone in the daylight. I normally don't like supernatural scary films, because I'm a scardey cat, but I made myself sit through this, and I still don't like supernatural scary films!!!! 8O
The film stars our pal, Kiefer Sutherland, as an ex-policeman, now night watchman in a spooky place with lots of mirrors. All manner of bloodshed and mayhem occur - I'll not spoil the film for those of you who will be dashing to rent the DVD or catch it on Sky. It certainly kept my attention: it was well-paced, and definitely frightened me half to death on occasions. The storyline was fairly predictable to be honest, but the one thing that I have to say is that Kiefer seemed to be playing Jack Bauer - I was expecting the CTU cavalry to come and rescue him. (They didn't.)

7/10 from me. But I won't be watching it again.

I've just finished watching Miss Pettigrew lives for a Day, and I've thoroughly enjoyed it. It was sweey and gentle, and Amy Adams was wonderful as the dizzy lead. Frances McDormand was outstanding as Miss Pettigrew. I'm glad I've caught it at last.
