If Frances Ha is as bad as that then I won't waste my time.
It's nowhere near as bad as Sleeping Beauty. Frances Ha is aimless and she can be damn annoying but at least you know what is going on. You won't look around as it ends and ask "WTF was that all about?" as I did to my friends when SB ended.

I am writing this and still not really sure what to say about this boring, uneventful and generally perplexing film.
I was continually waiting for the film to start (even after the 90 minutes!) and even now I'm not sure what it was about and what the point was of having it in black and white.
Didn't really warm to the main character and wanted her to have a bit more depth (or any depth at all).
Didn't enjoy this one (as if you hadn't guessed!)

Shame to hear it wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but I liked the fact it made me laugh! Really enjoyed this film and loved the black and white too - refreshingly different from the usual Hollywood. Clapham Picturehouse is also a lovely cinema - thank you ShowFilmFirst! 4 out of 5 stars.

I liked it, was nice to see a movie that actually had characters. Fans of TV show 'Girls' would enjoy it.

Well there you go - I went along to this today expecting to hate it with a passion . I don't often read these reviews BEFORE a preview screening, but the general concensus about Frances Ha has been permeating throughout the threads on here.
I actually DID like this. Not hugely, but it was an amusing little piece which almost made sense and almost had a begining, a middle and an end. I would have to agree (and I stand by my comment in post 2 of this thread) that the B+W was completely pointless and was really just an artistic self-indulgence that may have had some inner meaning or was meant to purvey some effect which will have sailed over all but those in the small circle of intellectuals that know about these thing's heads. This would have been SOOOOOO much better in full colour. It could have been more like Happy-Go-Lucky if it were.
Quirky? Yes. Aimless? Yes. Boring? No. Hilarious? No. Basically just a plain, inoffensive little movie.

Quite a few laughs amongst a reasonably full Picturehouse members/Guardian screening this morning, and great to be in a brand-newly refurbished Cameo, Edinburgh. Slight issue in that we had sound but no picture for the first ten minutes - which happened only to be the tiny featurette film - and they forgot to turn the lights down for a bit too. teething probs for a really comfortable cinema - with soft wide chairs that now recline, and so much leg room that you can walk past sitters without them moving!

As for rating, I'll give this a 6/10. No regrets about having given this a chance.

I saw this today and although I didn't LOVE it, I didn't HATE it either! Greenwich Picturehouse was packed, with two people sitting on the stairs next to me. I felt sorry at times for Frances. Everyone seemed to be moving on, but that's life isn't it!! I quite liked the 'black and white', it made a change!!

Well I am also in the camp that thinks this was OK. I didn't think it was the most fantastic film but it was decent. Frances went from being infuriating/annoying/a social disaster to occasionally being endearing (at the end). The black and white didn't annoy me at all -- New York in black and white is fine for me.

Hackney P'house was also pretty full -- 1 walk out. Did you notice Meryl Streep's daughter, Grace Gummer, in it? I thought at first she was the same daughter who was in The Good Wife but seems that is Mamie Gummer. Both certainly do look like a young Meryl.

I thought that this was a poignant and touching and charming character portrait & I loved it. Fantastic homage to woody allen / french new wave.
A lovely way to spend a sunday afternoon
