Just came back from seeing this at Cineworld Nottingham – I must agree with you the subtitles were disappearing too quickly, before I had chance to read them fully, despite that I still enjoyed the film

well this is the third time I have tried to post this :wall:

Saw film in Edinburgh tonight. Very busy people looking for seats

Really enjoyed film, thought story well told. Would have liked to see more of how she progressed from hat maker to icon, but perhaps that will be in Coco part 2

Sub titles slow enough and big enough for me to read o/ as not really into subtitled films

Thought at one stage we were going to get 3d glasses but they were for Ice Age but no Grazia mags here :(

Watched this at Didsbury about 90% full. I loved it, it was my type of film. Wish it could have continued a little longer to see a bit more fashion but hopefully there will be a Coco 2.
Lots of late comers some asking other people to move up even though they were 30 mins late

Must have been at the same screening as you Marjoreemarjora. Saw it last night and it was completely full with people still looking for seats when it started. Was surprised to see so many men in the audience.
I agree that I felt the story jumped a bit from just making hats to an icon with so many dress designs. The subtitles put me off a bit and I felt that the dialogue was kept very short between the characters possibly so that it could be subtitled without having too read too much.
Enjoyable but only 6 out of 10 for me.

Saw at cineworld renfrew st, as usual was very busy and, hurrah, this time there weren't lots of people leaving as soon as they saw it was subtitled (a la Priceless), but then again there were people coming in late and blocking off the subtitles for everyone else. I'm not sure how to rate this, as my enjoyment was affected positively and negatively by things that weren't really to do with the film.

Positively because, as I am taking French lessons just now to improve my somewhat rusty French, I really enjoyed working out things that were said before the subtitles came up, or the things that weren't subtitled (there were a couple) or the things that were subtitled differently than what was actually said (particularly the songs were pretty different). We studied the art of subtitling a bit when I studied French at first year of university but I think this has been the first time my French has been at a standard where I can actually appreciate it. Anyway, like I say that wasn't especially about the movie as it might have applied to any French film.

My experience was negatively impacted by my bf, who didn't want to come in the first place- that is, he wanted to come out to the cinema but not to see a French film, particularly one about fashion. I persuaded him to come using such methods as 'well, you liked Priceless and that was a French film' and 'you liked the Duchess and that had fashion in it' and 'you really liked Frost/Nixon and you thought it would be rubbish'. So he came along but in a foul mood and spent the whole of the film looking thoroughly unhappy to be there, making me feel guilty for dragging him along. This is not the first time this has happened and I should really learn my lesson and just go alone!

Anyway, as to the actual content of the film, I do have to say that Coco Chanel's life didn't seem that interesting, and although I enjoyed seeing how she changed fashion forever, I still didn't feel that involved with the characters and I think if I hadn't been enjoying listening to the French I might have found it boring. Overall I'm still glad I went to see it and I'd probably watch it again, so I'll give it 6.5/10.

Why were so many people arriving late for this preview, and at so many different locations? You could understand it if there had been a particular travel issue in one area, but that's clearly not the explanation. It was the same at Cineworld Crawley: not only were people coming in relatively late, i.e. when the film was due to start, but after the start. As it was already so full, they caused a lot of disruption, not only by trying to find any seats at all, but seats in pairs or, worse, 4 together. If you are that late, for whatever reason, I think you should really just grab a seat wherever you can and settle down as soon as possible, not have loud whispered discussions with your companions! And if you are attending as a group, you cannot expect to sit together if you don't arrive in time to find enough adjacent seats free. Someone even arrived late and with a small baby, which fortunately did not cry, though it did gurgle a lot. I find it bizarre that the film is a 12 cert but that people can bring in babies, presumably on the basis that they are too young to be affected by the content.

Saw this at Cineworld Cardiff last night. My daughters and I loved this film. The cinema was 80% full and the film started 5 minutes late.
Reading the subtitles did not hamper the enjoyment of the film, as it was just up my street.
Would happily watch it again. Was really touched how much sadness there had been in her life.
Just felt that there was a lot more of the story to be told so would love to see the next Coco.

The same in Fulham Road. The late comers all decided to sit on the stairs, completely blooking them, or some tried to sit behind all the seats or on the sides of the cinema. The manager had to come out several times to make them all move which was extremely frustrating. Thing is, even though they are over 15 mins late, they still went to get popcorn and coke to stuff themselves with
preferred locations Shepherds Bush, Westfield, Notting Hill, Central London, Wimbledon, Islington, Wandsworth thanks

Found this a bit slow for the first 15 minutes or so but did see it through to the end and was pleasantly surprised. Quite a good film and I didn't even realise I was reading subtitles! My daughter found it hard work though.

7 out of 10 for us.
