It's worth checking out!
Just watched this, quite interesting how hes still kept so much of the imagery the same but obviously it looks so much better with big budget effects and Wikus is in it!

Was there SFF screenings for this?? ... think i will be p*ying to see this one though as i have heard alot of good things even though I thought it looked like it had all been done before in the trailers.

Caught this at the weekend, thought it was excellent.

Prior to seeing it I had only half watched a trailer where one of the aliens was stating his desire to go home in an interview with human officials. This was not part of the film, and I thought it worked well as a taster rather than the normal "show the best bits" formula. (After watching the film I did see a trailer of this ilk and I'm glad I hadn't seen it before the film itself).

The film itself can't really be discussed without throwing spoilers around, but it's well worth a watch.

Easily one of the better films of 2009, and a solid 8/10. o/

Saw this last night at the Cineworld and was very pleased that it lives up to the hype. This is an original piece of science fiction which deals with "difficult" subjects from which it does not shy away ala the usual empty blockbusters. The SA setting is alien in itself but also disturbingly close to home. The term "It couldn't happen here" is not applicaple! Production design is great and one can almost smell the rot and decay inside District 9. The CGI is believeable but also not over used. The acting is also natural and not having any "star" names make it more so. Though I doubt we have seen the last of the lead actor - an amazing performance especially as he starts off being very unlikable. Untill more people have seen this film it is not possible to go into much more detail.

I liked the mockumentary style of the film and pretty impressive production for a meager $30 millions compared to contemporary big film budgets.

I like how the film goes against the current trend of having the CGI supplement the story rather than the other way around.

Although I found Wikus difficult to accept at times as the unwitting hero given his bumbling and selfish nature.

Am I the only one who found Christopher Johnson to be a little too forgiving of Wikus?

Especially after he threatened to evict him and take his son away if he didn't comply and near the end he knocked him out before getting into the command module and leaving him in MNU's clutches lol.

For me it didn't meet the hype of being a sci-fi classic but certainly a very good film regardless.

District 9 lands at the top spot.

Alien drama District 9 has invaded the UK box office, flying straight into number one.

The film, which is produced by Peter Jackson, knocked The Final Destination 3D off the top spot after taking over £2 million.

Saw this last night and quite enjoyed it. Cleverer than your typical silly action film (ahem transformers 2) but still filled its quota of shooting and explosions.

Definitely agree is e-lan-go's comment of "I like how the film goes against the current trend of having the CGI supplement the story rather than the other way around."

I will give it an 8/10
